Can’t receive email? Don’t change your address yet
Rule out common causes in order, from copy-and-paste errors and mailbox expiry to sender blocks. Repeated resends may trigger rate limits and make you wait even longer.
Two-minute quick check
Return to the submission page and compare the username and domain character by character. Pay close attention to numbers, hyphens, and extra spaces.
Temporary email addresses are valid for 3 hours by default, with a maximum lifetime of 24 hours. Once the countdown ends, they can no longer receive messages.
Mail queues, greylisting, or sender rate limits may cause delays of several minutes. Repeated clicks can generate multiple expired verification codes.
If the page says disposable domains aren’t supported, use your regular long-term email address or a forwarding alias instead.
Troubleshooting Temporary Email vs. Forwarding Aliases
| Symptom | Temporary email | Forwarding alias |
|---|---|---|
| No new message appears | Refresh the current inbox and check the countdown | Check the destination mailbox’s spam folder and archived messages in the dashboard |
| Attachment missing | Temporary mailboxes don’t retain attachments | Check the file size and the site’s retention rules |
| Address disabled | Create a new address after expiry | Re-enable the alias in the dashboard |
| Explicitly rejected by sender | Use a regular long-term email address | Confirm the username is correct, then contact the sender |
Determine the outcome by attachment size
Attachment limits apply to the total email size, not just one file. Temporary mailboxes don’t retain attachments, and messages over 100 MB are rejected. For forwarding aliases, messages up to 50 MB are forwarded and kept in the 30-day archive; messages over 50 MB and up to 100 MB are forwarded without attachments being stored on the site; messages over 100 MB are rejected.
Verification code expired or doesn’t match
Many sites only accept the most recent verification code. If you requested several codes in a row, wait for all the messages to arrive, then use the newest one. Check the action described in the subject: login codes, registration confirmations, and email-change codes usually aren’t interchangeable.
The forwarding alias has an archive, but the main mailbox has no message
- Check your main mailbox’s spam, promotions, and “All Mail” folders.
- Confirm that the destination email in the dashboard is the mailbox you’re currently using.
- Check the archive status: failed messages can be retried from the dashboard, but verify that the sender is trustworthy before overriding a spam decision.
- Before allowlisting a trusted sender address, verify the domain and email authentication details to avoid allowing forged messages.
Still can’t receive email
When contacting support, include the time it happened, the address type (temporary email or forwarding alias), the sender’s domain, and the status shown on the page. Never send verification codes, login tokens, complete email contents, or sensitive attachments.
